MOBIPAY, in a joint venture with Agano Safi, will start operating in Tanzania after having received a digital payment services licence.
MobiPay is a Namibian company founded in 2009 and licensed by the Bank of Namibia in 2010 as a payment instrument issuer, and recently became Namibia’s first non−bank participant in the national clearing and settlement system.
Agano Safi is a company duly registered in Tanzania with the goal to become the default vending and payment service provider in that country.
Agano Safi is funded by Tulive Private Equity, a Namfisa−regulated unlisted investment manager, rendering support for the strategic expansion of MobiPay into sub−Saharan Africa.
Theresia Samaria, Namibia’s high commissioner to Tanzania, witnessed the handover and commended the partnership and acknowledged Agano Safi and MobiPay for joining forces with the aim of creating an inter−Africa trade relationship aimed at sharing and imparting technological know−how and innovation between the two companies.
The executive chairman of MobiPay, Amos Shiyuka was delighted during the handover ceremony, and echoed the words of Samaria that Africans should be able to trade amongst themselves and build strong economic ties and networks. Source: Namibian
