Qatar Airways plans to acquire a stake of 25 to 49% of Royal Air Morocco (RAM) to expand in Africa, reported UAE daily The National on June 5, citing an officer of the company.
“The acquisition will require a large redevelopment at our base in Casablanca, because Africa now needs a major airport hub,” said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of the carrier.
According to him, the entry of Qatar Airways in the RAM round should take place after the completion of the acquisition by Qatar Airways for a 49% stake in the Italian carrier Meridiana.
The entry of Qatar Airways in the capital of the RAM should enable it to develop in African markets. The Moroccan company network indeed offers connections to over 40 destinations on the continent.
